Arizona Cardinals running back Jonathan Dwyer was arrested on aggravated assault charges Wednesday. Dwyer is accused of head butting his wife and breaking her nose, after she refused sex with him, and throwing a shoe at their 18-month-old son.
Over the first two weeks of the NFL season, the bulk of the conversation hasn’t been on what’s gone down on the field, but rather several violent incidents away from the game which included situations with ex-Ravens running back Ray Rice, Vikings running back Adrian Peterson and Carolina Panthers Greg Hardy.
Last July, right before the start of training camp, two incidents took place were police were called by neighbors. On July 21 and 22, Dwyer and his wife got into an argument, when he tried to kiss his wife, she refused and bit his lip. He then head butted her and breaking her nose.
When the police showed up, his wife said he wasn’t there, although its believed that he was hiding in the bathroom.
A second incident happen when Dwyer and his wife had another argument where he threw her cell phone from the second floor window. This is also when he threw the shoe at their child.
The Cardinals running back also reportedly threatened to kill himself and texted his wife a photo of the knife.
He’s been deactivated by the Cardinals.
