Arizona Cardinals could trade Larry Fitzgerald

The Arizona Cardinals are rebuilding mode. With that in mind, one of the Cards likely trading chips is the contract of Pro Bowl wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. The NFL’s trade deadline is Tuesday, October 29th but per ESPN’s Adam Sheftner, this offseason could see the wide receiver moved.

Fitzgerald’s salary-cap number balloons to $18 million next season and the team could save $8 million by trading him.

Arizona and Fitzgerald will either have to agree to a restructured contract or a trade that would allow each side to go its own way, with the wide receiver finishing his career on a franchise that has won more consistently than Arizona.

This season, Fitzgerald, 30, has 32 receptions for 422 yards and four touchdowns (matching his total from 2012), his first with quarterback Carson Palmer. He has battled a left hamstring injury this season.

Last season, in which the Cardinals started four different quarterbacks, he struggled to 71 catches for 798 yards, snapping his streak of seasons with at least 1,000 yards receiving at five.

The Cardinals took on the Atlanta Falcons Sunday, and came out with a win. When Fitzgerald was asked about the possibility of being traded, the WR explained that he was focused on doing his job.

“I come to work every day and just focus on how I can help the Arizona Cardinals and help my team win,” Fitzgerald said after the Cardinals’ 27-13 win over the Falcons. “If they decide to move me, that happens. I have no control over any of that. I just focus on what I can do to improve and help my team.”
