Aaron Hernandez Found Not Guilty of 2012 Double Murder in Boston

Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was found not guilty of murder in the 2012 shooting of two men.

The jury delivered the verdict late Friday afternoon at Suffolk Superior Court.

Hernandez was acquitted on charges of killing Daniel de Abreu and Safiro Furtado in a drive-by shooting in Boston’s South End in the early morning hours of July 16, 2012.  It was believed the former NFL star shot the men after Abreu bumped into Hernandez in a club, causing Hernandez to spill a drink.

The jury also acquitted him of witness intimidation for shooting the star’s prosecution witness, Alexander Bradley, in Florida in 2013.  The only charge Hernandez was found guilty on by this jury was unlawful gun possession and was sentenced to 4-5 years in state prison for that.

Hernandez, however, is already serving life in prison after being found guilty of the 2013 shooting of Odin Lloyd, who had been dating the sister of Hernandez’s fiancee at the time of the murder.

Hernandez will reportedly appeal that verdict.
