Chris Culliver is a second year cornerback for the San Francisco 49’ers. He was drafted in the third round. He’s from Philadelphia and went to college at South Carolina. You may or may not have been familiar with his name before today. You most certainly hadn’t heard his name in any of the main stories in the days leading up to Sunday’s Super Bowl. But chances are good, you’re about to be quite familiar with him.

**UPDATE**
As expected, Culliver has issued an apology.
“The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience,” Culliver said in a statement.
