As I was checking out The OKC Thunder vs. New Orleans Hornets game, the announcer for the Thunder dropped a little jewel from the team’s recent trip to Houston. A few of the players jumped in a cab for parts unknown. Their driver was none other than former NBA player John Drew.
Drew was the first NBA player permanently banned for violating the league’s substance abuse policy in 1985. I wonder if they recognized him or if he recognized them and shared his story? Cocaine is a hell of a drug.
John Drew was the 7th pick by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1974 NBA Draft. He led the league in offensive rebounding his rookie season and was a two-time all-star for the Hawks. He was traded to Utah in 1982 for Dominique Wilkins.
