In the basketball coaching world, legendary Tennessee Volunteers former head coach Pat Summit‘s storied career is one many would want to emulate. In a shocking admission, her son Tyler Summit is stepping down from his Louisiana Tech women’s basketball head coaching position due to an inappropriate relationship with a player.
SB Nation’s Swish Appeal is reporting that the married Summitt actually got one of his players pregnant.
Summitt is 25 and married to his high school sweetheart. He served as head coach at Louisiana Tech for two seasons. Summitt was an assistant coach at Marquette from 2012-14.
Summitt graduated from the University of Tennessee and was on the men’s basketball team for two seasons from 2010-2012.
“I am profoundly disappointed in myself for engaging in a relationship that has negatively affected the people I love, respect and care about the most,” Summitt said in a press release. “My hope, plans and prayers are to repair those relationships. I am appreciative of the opportunity I was given to coach at Louisiana Tech. I am heartbroken that my time has ended in Ruston, but because of my respect for the institution, it is best that I resign.”
Summitt played college ball on the Tennessee men’s team.While at Tennessee, he was a student assistant coach under his mother, helping the team from 2007-2009 bringing home two National Championships with the Lady Vols. He married to his high school girlfriend in 2013 and went 30-31 as Lousiana Tech’s head coach.
