Steve Kerr spurred the man that made him hot. Kerr has signed a 5-year-$25 million deal to be the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Kerr was courted by several teams but the kick off started when Phil Jackson took on an executive role with the New York Knicks. For two months, the speculation has been that Kerr was Phil’s guy to take over as head coach of the Knicks – without any prior head coaching experience.
Warriors owner Joe Laccob spoke to USA Today on the hiring.
But Kerr opted for Golden State. The benefits to Warriors – a 50 win season, consecutive playoff appearances, a 55 minute flight from his home in San Diego and a good relationship with the owners. But in some ways his leash might be a bit shorter. A stacked west, a team that loved mark Jackson and a fanbase that won’t be happy if the Warriors have a rough start out of the gate.
Having said that, I love Steve Kerr. I enjoyed him as an analyst, I liked his work as an executive with the Phoenix Suns and obviously as a player- five rings is nothing to sneeze at. Congratulations!
