Royce White says “hell no” he’s not ready to travel by plane next NBA season

The Philadelphia 76’ers took Royce White off the hands of the Houston Rockets. White never suited up for the Rockets last season. He and the Rockets tried to figure out how a man with an anxiety disorder that doesn’t allow him to fly, could play on an NBA team that has 41 road games a year. White was recently asked if he’s ready to take the 100+ flights next season for Philly and his answer was, “Hell NO.”

“Hell no, 100 flights would be like if you’re allergic to peanut butter – it’d be like spreading your whole body with it.”

So far White hasn’t connected with the Sixers to discuss his anxiety and their needs as the trade hasn’t been finalized. But, we all know how well that plan turned out for the Rockets. My guess would be that White’s is a one-and-done in Philly. The same issues that plagued him last season with the Rockets will naturally come up once again. White says he plans to earn his spot but he said all the right things in Houston at the start also.

“Anything can happen between now and (the season),” White said. “It’s every intention of mine to play. “I don’t know what Philly’s intentions are. I’m just going to go there, work hard and try to earn my place.”

“If the trade goes through, I’m excited,” White said after a 32-point, 7-rebound, 7-assist night during a 121-114 loss against a team sponsored by Coke. “It’s a blessing to play on any NBA team. I just hope I can continue to work with the NBA and the players’ union and whatever team I’m on to help create more mental health awareness.

Yeah, good luck with that.
