Rajon Rondo opted to party in LA instead of going to Sacramento with Celtics

The Celtics are in rebuilding mode. Rajon Rondo is returning from a torn ACL last season but he’s clearly not about that rebuild life. Over the weekend, Rondo opted not to accompany the team to Sacramento where they faced off against the Kings on Saturday. Instead the guard stayed in LA to celebrate his birthday.

The Celtics captain turned 28 on Saturday but didn’t receive “official permission” to stay in LA. Rondo also had family members in town per the Boston Herald.

The captain didn’t want to get into the matter before last night’s 110-98 loss to the Jazz.

“We already talked about it,” Rondo said. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

That doesn’t appear to be the case. President of basketball operations Danny Ainge said yesterday he is still looking into the situation.

“I plan on talking to Rondo when he gets back into town,” he told the Herald. “I’ll find out more about what went into it, and then we’ll handle it internally. We handle all of those kind of issues internally.”

As part of his reintroduction into the line up, Rondo hasn’t been playing on the second night of back-to-backs, the Celtics played the Lakers on Friday on LA, but is that enough reason not to hit the 45 minute plane ride to Sac? Apparently so.

He also found time to head over to rapper Tyga’s new retail store that opened Saturday on Melrose, “Last Kings”
