NBA Set To Air Gun Control Spots During Christmas Games

NBA players have been speaking out about gun violence for quiet some time. Chicago Bulls’ center Joakim Noah produced a mini-documentary on gun violence that includes interviews with teammates and several Chicago-area residents who had lost family members and friends.

With the rash of mass shootings happening almost weekly across America, the NBA is taking a stand through a series of commercials directed by Spike Lee and sponsored by Everytown for Gun Safety. Steph Curry and Chris Paul. The spots will debuted on Christmas.

Far too many Americans have been impacted by gun violence. The stories of survivors and families of those taken by gun violence often go untold. Acclaimed director Spike Lee sat down with several NBA All Stars and dozens of members of the Everytown Survivor Network to hear how this issue has affected them – and what they’re doing to affect change.

The focus of “Everytown for Gun Safety” is changes to gun laws. Expanded background checks, tougher punishments for gun trafficking, and a ban on gun sales to people convicted of domestic violence.

Spike Lee brought the idea to ESPN and they connected the “Chi-Raq” director to NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.
