A little rain couldn’t take the shine off of the 2011 NBA All-Star weekend in Los Angeles. Check the highlights:
On Friday night, the Rookies beat the Sophomores 148 to 140. John Wall was the MVP with 12 points and 22 Assists (which by the way was a rookie record, 17 was the highest number before set by Chris Paul)
Saturday Night:
Atlanta won the Haier shooting stars competition knocking off team Texas. The team consisted of Al Horford (left), Coco Miller and Steve Smith.
::YAWN:: sorry Next up, The Taco Bell Skills challenge. This event started in 2003 as a way for point guards to sow the varied skill set it takes to be a top guard in the L. This year’s winner, Golden State Warrior, Stephen Curry.
The 3 point shoot out was pretty exciting, when it was all said and done, the dark horse contestant- James Jones- walked away with the title. He’s the 4th Miami Heat player to win it in in the last 10 or so years.
Sidenote, Boobie Gibson and his hair:
Just WRONG …
And of course, the crown jewel of the event, the Dunk Contest. As expected, it did not disappoint. All 4 contestants brought their A skills. Blake Griffin was crowned the champion but JaVale McGee (with a guess appearance from his mother and hoops legend Pamela McGee kept it close in the final rounds) check out a few highlights from that too:
Of course, I can’t forget the highlight of the night, when Dr. J showed how much he appreciated Javale’s Legacy by giving Pam McGee and extra special greeting!
