Earvin “Magic” Johnson and AppleTV+ present a new docuseries, “They Call Me Magic,” which chronicles the life of the NBA icon and businessman.
The series follows Johnson’s origins as the face of the Los Angeles Lakers, cementing himself as an all-time NBA legend, changing the conversation around HIV, and transforming into a successful entrepreneur and community activist. Among the topics covered in “They Call Me Magic” was the basketball icon’s roller-coaster relationship with his wife, Cookie. Over 12 years, there were several broken engagements and long-distance struggles. And, of course, women.
We also get the back story of EJ Johnson coming out to his family and how Magic dealt with the situation.
Johnson talked with Jill Munroe about putting together the project, why it’s been vital to his business to elevate Black women and the importance of giving back to the Black community.
Catch the docuseries on AppleTV+ beginning April 22.
