With the New York Knicks looking much better and on a four-game win streak, many people were looking forward to their game against the defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers. Unfortunately, the Knicks offered little resistance as the Cavs won by a blowout of 126-94.
LeBron James (25 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists) and Kyrie Irving (28 points, 2 rebounds, 6 assists) were done for the night and decided to have some fun on the sideline. While the Cavs were up 31 with less than a minute to go at Madison Square Garden, they attempted the #waterbottlechallenge.
Irving successfully nailed a flip, but it wasn’t caught on camera. The video going around Twitter showed Irving make an attempt and fail. Then James tossed the bottle and it landed on the court. James sprawled out to quickly grab the bottle while play went to the opposite end of the court.
“It’s just a social media craze,” Irving said via ESPN, tongue firmly in cheek. “The water bottle is just like — if you land it, you are just like a legend.”
“I was just trying to follow in the kids’ footsteps and really just put my mark on the water-bottle challenge, man,” Irving added, in reference to online videos of epic bottle flips. “It was awesome. But hey, move on.”
