Los Angeles Lakers fans are you ready? The Lakers have claimed Carlos Boozer off of waivers. The Bulls Amnestied Boozer’s $16.8 million contract. The Lakers will be paying $3.25 million of that next season. As part of the new NBA collective bargaining agreement in 2011, teams are allowed a one time provision to waive a player so that his contract won’t count against their salary cap. They still have to pay him though.
This is why Gilbert Arenas is still cashing NBA checks.
Boozer is a 12-year NBA vet, who was originally drafted to the Cleveland Cavaliers, infamously left them in free agency to join the Utah Jazz, and has spent the last four seasons with the Bulls. Last season, he averaged 13 points, 8 rebounds and 1 assist.
The Lakers have also signed former Memphis Grizzlies forward Ed Davis to a 2-year, $2 million deal.
