Knicks get Marcus Camby, re-up with JR Smith & Steve Novak

The New York Knicks are reloading. Gearing up for the change of landscape in the east with the Brooklyn Nets wheeling and dealing, the champs adding Ray Allen and the Celtics replacing Ray Allen with Jason Terry. The Knicks have agreed to a three-year, $13.2 million sign-and-trade deal with the Houston Rockets for 38-year old  Marcus Camby. In exchange for Camby’s services, the Knicks are sending guard Toney Douglas, big men Josh Harrelson and Jerome Jordan and a pair of second round picks to the Rockets.

They’re also bringing back J.R. Smith – their third leading score in the playoffs. Smith agreed to a 2-year, $5.6 million deal with the team and Mr. “discount double check,”shooter Steve Novak signed for four-years, $15 million.

Smith’s deal has a player option for the second season. Smith averaged 12.5 ppg, 2.4 apg and 3.9 rpg in 35 games with New York after joining the team in February following a stint in China. Novak lead the NBA in three-point shooting at .472

Marcus Camby is back for round two with the Knicks. Camby spent four years in New York from 1998-2002. Who were his teammates? Mark Jackson, Latrell Sprewell, Allan Houston, Charlie Ward and Shandon Anderson to name a few. Camby was the number two pick in the 1996 draft.

The Knicks are also expected to match the Houston Rockets offer to point guard Jeremy Lin for four-years-$30 million.
