Growing up in the spotlight is hard. All your missteps that are a part of the normal growth process are suddenly open for public debate. Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant has certainly experienced that. But now KD is morphing into his not nice persona. During an interview All-Star weekend, he shared his thoughts on the media.
Durant was later asked what stories he would like the media to focus on more.
KD said he’s tired of being a PC player, acting like he doesn’t go through things and grapple with emotions. He talked about his early years in the league when he was “finding himself” and focused more on trying to be what everyone told him to be.
Sounds like KD was struggling with being a “brand” versus the growing up process. Sure, the media plays a role in that, but ultimately that’s part of the sacrifice of the glory of being a professional athlete. I think mutual respect is key. Everyone in the media isn’t trying to take you down. There are a lot of benefits for both sides in these relationships working.
Sounds like we’re headed to more Marshawn-Lynch like post game.
