JR Smith is having a rocky season with the Knicks this year. After being fined $50,000 for untying players shoes while at the foul line, JR was held out of Thursday night’s match up against the Miami Heat.
According to Smith, Knicks coach Mike Woodson didn’t tell him before the game he wouldn’t be playing.
Smith himself thought the fine was a bit excessive.
“The first time it was done, everybody thought it was hilarious. The second time it was done, it wasn’t really done. But at the end of the day it is what it is. I’m not going to fight it.
“It was a joke, but a joke gone wrong,” Smith said.
Woodson stated that Smith needs to cut the antics and calls Smith’s conduct “unacceptable”.
“I’m not happy about this because he was warned, he comes back, and he makes the same mistake, and it’s not right,” Woodson said. “It’s just got to stop. I keep saying this every time something pops up, but it’s got to stop.”
JR has been fined this season for issuing threats to Brandon Jennings via Twitter and suspended 5 games for violating the NBA’s drug policy. And $1 million in total fines over his 10 year NBA career.
