JR Smith had his best season as a pro this year with the New York Knicks. Sixth man of the year, averaging 18.1 points on 42.2 percent shooting to go with 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 1.3 steals per game. Smith was set to earn $2.9 million next season. By opting out and with the Knicks holding his early Bird rights, JR is eligible for a new contract that starts around $5 million. Smith is expected to officially announce his decision before June 30th.
Another team could possibly swoop in and offer Smith a contract starting at $6 million but the Knicks and JR have a good thing, more than likely he sticks with them.
In the meantime, check out JR’s top 10 plays from this NBA season.
