Joe “Jellybean” Bryant (you know him, Kobe’s dad) is once again the head coach of the L.A. Sparks. After a disapointing start to the season (including yet another Candace Parker injury, this time her knee) the Sparks have fired head coach Jennifer Giollm.
The Sparks are currently in 5th place in the Western conference and on a 5 game losing streak. The record this season is 4-6. This is the second time “Jellybean” is replacing a fired head coach he was an assistant under with the Sparks. The first time was in 2005 when he was brought in under then head coach Mike Bibby.
I really hope the Sparks can turn their season around. In the 3 years since Candace Parker has arrived, they’ve failed to live up to the expectations I had for them. I believe the talent is there but everything can’t fall apart if Candace is out. I guess we’ll just have to wait for her to play an actual full season to see if this version of the Sparks can live up to the ’00 and ’01 teams.
