The 2016 NBA season has been one for the history books. So many records shared this season by one team, the Golden State Warriors. And on the final night of the season, they did what no other NBA team has done before them, when 73 games in one season.
The Warriors began this season with a 24-game win streak before they loss their first game. That’s when you knew that something special could be brewing. Even though the Warriors were fresh off winning the 2015 NBA title, it was clear they felt disrespected by the chatter that injuries and luck were the reasons they won the title.
They had a mission to make the other teams in the league submit to their dominance. They did by incredible shooting, unselfish ball play and team dinners. On Wednesday night, they showed the world that they are in fact one of the best teams to ever play the game.
After dropping games to the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves, some started to doubt the dubs would pass the 96 Bulls. Keep in mind, the Warriors also had to beat the Spurs twice in the last stretch – both at home and at home where the Spurs hadn’t loss all season.
The Warriors rocked the Memphis Grizzlies 125-104 Wednesday night comfortably ending the season with 73 wins and nine losses.
By the numbers on the season:
Let’s also not forget that Steph Curry has shattered an NBA record for threes this season, making 402. That’s more than Larry Bird made his entire nine-year NBA career. Klay Thompson was a distant second at 216. The comedy in that is that Klay’s total would’ve broken last year’s record that was set by who? Klay’s Splash Brother backcourt mate, Steph Curry.
