It’s been almost a year since Washington Wizards’ Star Gilbert Arenas lost his endorsement deal with Adidas. While several players have opted for deals with lesser known brands such as Under Armor (Brandon Jennings) or the Chinese shoe company Li Ning (Baron Davis, Ron Artest), Gilbert opted to go the high end route for on court footwear.
Last night against the Lakers (The Lakers won by the way) Gil broke out a pair of D&G Velcro Strap Patent Hi-Top sneakers. I can’t recall a pair of high end sneakers touching the hardwood before this. D&G sponsors several sports teams in Europe including, soccer clubs AC Milan and Chelsea, as well as the new Italian National Boxing team, “The Milano Thunder”. Perhaps this was a savvy move by the Ex-Agent Zero to angle for a new endorsement deal.
The sneakers feature a suede trim and three velcro straps – two in patent metallic blue, the other in patent yellow. It’s detailing includes the D&G logo on the tongue and back heel, laminated sides, and suede inserts accented by gold stitched piping on a thick white rubber sole. It retails for $395
I wonder what type of technology is in the shoe? Probably not much but it looks good!
