The 2019 BIG3 championship took place in front of a packed house of fans that included LeBron James, LL Cool J, former NFL star Terrell Owens and more, who enjoyed an afternoon of quality basketball and entertainment in Downtown LA at The Staples Center.
Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg performed at halftime of the main match between the Killer 3’s, which featured Stephen Jackson and home-grown LA talent Frank “Nitty” Sessions while being coached by Knicks legend Charles Oakley. Against the Triplets, who boasted a roster of Joe Johnson, Jamiro Moon, and Al Jefferson, with the Triplets won the Julius Erving trophy.
Los Angeles sports icon Lisa Leslie was the Triplets coach and not only won BIG 3 coach of the year, but she also secured a title in her first coaching stint ever, on the floor where she won back-to-back titles with the LA Sparks.
Toyota joined the league this year as a sponsor and is making an impact both on and off the court. They invited me to attend and catch the fun from their media suite in Staples Center.
The “Toyota Experience” included philanthropic efforts such as the Give-a-Shot and “RAV4-Point Circle” contest which support the charitable organizations of Joe Johnson’s choice.
