Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose is giving back to the people of Chicago. Rose has announced he’ll be donating $1 million to After School Matters, a Chicago-based non-profit that organizes after-school programs for teens.
“To have a strong community of people who believe in your potential can make all the difference in the world,” said Rose, a native of Englewood, who is a point guard for the Chicago Bulls. “So many people have invested in me and I want to do the same for Chicago’s teens.”
The program also organizes out-of-school apprenticeships for teens and has a program at Simeon Career Academy, Rose’s alma mater.
Rose begins training camp with the Bulls next week after missing the last two seasons due to knee injuries. He spent the later part of the summer with USA basketball and won a gold medal in the FIBA world cup in Barcelona a few weeks ago.
