When you are losing, sometimes the only thing you can focus on is The End. That seems to be what’s going on with the Denver Nuggets. Currently the team is sitting in the 13th spot in the Western Conference. Their season ends on April 15th, which leaves 22 more games in this season.
Even thought they aren’t technically eliminated from the playoffs, the Nuggets play in the extremely stacked West. It’s pretty clear the Nuggets are already dreaming of the summer break. During Friday’s 102-84, loss to the Utah Jazz on their home floor, the Nuggets broke the huddle with a chant of “1-2-3…six weeks” according to “The Denver Post.”
Head coach Brian Shaw has had trouble reaching the team this season, and could be on the hot seat in Denver.
“I’m frustrated in myself because I feel that I need to figure out a way to do a better job at trying to get that out of us, get that hustle and those kinds of plays and to play with more of a sense of urgency, play with more tenacity,” he said.
“Our guys are frustrated, too. And so the weight of this all starts to come down. Some guys in those situations fight harder. Some guys give in.”
During the 2012-2013 season, Denver finished third in the West with a 57-25 record. Their head coach at the time, George Karl, was awarded Coach of the Year, and then fired by the team that summer. Their former GM Masai Ujiri left that summer also, and landed in Toronto. Shaw took over the Nuggets last season, the team missed the playoffs last year, finishing 36-46.
