Dawn of the Big Men In the NBA

In a season where Andre Drummond is unstoppable and franchises are still salivating over having Anthony Davis be their cornerstone, we rank the NBAs top 5 big men.

Remember the 80’s and 90’s when big men were at the center of the game? Well those days have come and gone. Big men in the last 10 years have been become finesse players who can stretch the floor. Sure there were some exceptions to that over the last decade, but it’s becoming more and more common. With that being said, there has been a mini resurgence of big men in the league and were going to take a look at this season’s top 5 big men

Anthony Davis
Not the conventional big man, Anthony Davis is a finesse player who is learning to use force. Davis was undersized coming out of college, but has bulked up and is showing what made him a number 1 overall pick. Averaging over 23 points, 10 boards and 2 block, the brow is essentially unstoppable. At just 22 years old, this kid will be a star for many years to come.

Andre Drummond
Turning into exactly what the Pistons hoped for when drafting him, Drummond is a throwback big man. Playing like he belongs on the Bad Boy Pistons of the 90’s. This young stud is averaging 18 points and 16 rebounds and doing it in dominating fashion.

Demarcus Cousins
Cousins may be the most talented player whom everyone seems to forget. Hidden on a horrendous team, Cousins’ never seems to be in the spotlight (for anything good). Nearly a career 20-10 guy, Boogie has been relatively dominant since stepping foot on an NBA court. This season Cousins is average a quiet 25 points and 10 rebounds. But hey, when you never get over 30 wins in a season why would anyone care.

Dwight Howard
One of the best big men since coming into the league, Howards skills are nearly unmatched. He’s an athletic freak who has a knack for highlight reel dunks. In recent years Howard’s injuries have prevented him from dominating. With health hopefully improving, look for a resurgence from the one of the best big men in the game today.

LaMarcus Aldridge

Though his stats may have dipped, there is no doubt that Aldridge is amongst the most talented players in the NBA. Playing inside and out, he is a nightmare matchup for defenses. Aldridge may not be the most athletic player or best shooter, but there is no doubt about his talent. By joining the Spurs this year, LaMarcus gives himself a shot to capture that elusive first ring.
