The Lakers and Clippers began sharing Staples Center when it opened in 1999. Prior to this, the Lakers played in Inglewood at the Forum and the Clippers played at the Sports Arena. With the Lakers being the dominant franchise for years in the city of Los Angeles. Going to a Clipper home game would in some ways, still feel like the Clippers were playing in the Lakers home.
But now the Clippers have become the city’s dominant team and want their home games to reflect Clipper Nation. At Friday night’s preseason match up against the Portland Trailblazers, the Clips unveiled their latest Staples Center additions, banners of current players to cover up the Lakers championship banners and retired jerseys.
