The injury bug seems to have a firm grasp on Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo. The 28-year-old slipped in the shower on Thursday and broke his left hand.
The team announced that he had surgery on Friday and is expected to miss six to eight weeks. NBA training camps open next week – with the exception to teams that have preseason games abroad, those camps opened today.
Rondo and the Celtics have been on uneasy ground for awhile. Rondo reportedly had no interest in being on a team rebuilding, while the Celtics were initially unsure about trading him, they also didn’t make an offer to him this offseason. Rondo tore his ACL in 2013 and spent most of last season recovering from that injury and trying to play himself into shape.
Expect rookie Marcus Smart, the sixth pick in the 2014 draft, to handle point guard duties to start the season.
I think Houston could be a good landing spot for Rondo.
