Carmelo Anthony led Syracuse University to a 2003 NCAA National title his freshman year. On Saturday the university honored him by retiring his no. 15th jersey. Melo’s jersey will hang in the rafters next to the 2003 championship banner and join others such as Dave Bing, Vic Hanson, Pearl Washington, Sherman Douglas, Wilmeth Sidat-Singh, Derrick Coleman, Rony Seikaly, Billy Owens and Billy Gabor.
Anthony is still very much apart of the community, He’s donated $3 million to start the fund-raising campaign for the Carmelo K. Anthony Basketball Center. His name and his former coach, Jim Boeheim’s names are on several courts at playgrounds around the city in their shared Courts 4 Kids project.
