One of the big topics during this NBA lockout has been the number of NBA players signing on with teams overseas. I know the idea of it sounds glamorous but the reality often times doesn’t work out that way.
Chicago Bulls free agent forward Rasual Butler signed to play in Spain with Gran Canaria just a few weeks ago. It was announced on Monday that he’s left the team for personal reasons.
Nets pg, Deron Williams is already playing in Turkey, Warriors forward Reggie Williams is also in Spain, Nuggets players JR Smith and Wilson Chandler both signed on with teams in China (with no opt out clause) to name a few. In total, 52 players have signed to play overseas.
I wonder how many will make it through the entire season. Stephon Marbury warned that it would likely be a tough a transition for NBA guys to play overseas.
