Blake Griffin says “Lob City” is dead

The Clippers are attempting yet another franchise makeover. This time transforming into NBA Champions. With that change, Blake Griffin says “Lob City” is dead.

“Lob City doesn’t exist anymore. Lob City is done,” Griffin told ESPN’s Shelley Smith in an interview at the Clippers media day on Monday. “We’re moving on and we’re going to find our identity during training camp and that will be our new city. No more Lob City.”

“Our offense is going to have a totally different look this year,” said Griffin, who added that he’d done a lot of work in the offseason on his face-up game from 10-15 feet away from the basket. “Our offense is going to have a lot of movement and floor spacing. I’m looking forward to it.”

The thing about nicknames, the ones that stick aren’t the ones that you give to yourself. When Blake got the news that day that the Clippers had traded for Chris Paul and uttered, “It’s about to be Lob City,” the fans picked up on it and ran with that movement. I appreciate Blake knowing the team has to be about their business this year. But leave the fan stuff, to the fans.
