Andrew Bynum on playing with Kobe, the Lakers struggles & his fro

Andrew Bynum is always good for a quoteable. On Sunday before the Lakers faced off against his Sixers, Andrew did not disappoint.

On why the Lakers are currently struggling:

“They’re just struggling,” Bynum said. “They’ve got injuries, and they aren’t posting the ball. So that’s tough, too.”

Bynum said the only Laker he still talks to now is Pau Gasol, which jibes with Bynum’s take that the Lakers need to use post-up offense more — as Gasol and Dwight Howard have indicated. Bynum also questioned the Lakers’ “commitment to defense” and their bench depth.

“Obviously the talent is there to win a championship — from the starters’ point of view anyway,” Bynum said.

But his commentary, that was reserved for Dwight Howard. Andrew shared his thoughts on what life is going to be like for Howard playing with Kobe:

“Dwight’s a great player, but he’s going to have to get accustomed to playing with Kobe (Bryant) and not touching the ball every single play.”

He also mentioned that being away from the Lakers opens him up more on the court – but how does he REALLY know that seeing as he’s yet to play a game in anything other than a Lakers uniform. Bynum also stated that being with the Lakers could potentially stunt one’s growth from not having the ball.

“Later, I thought I was able to get the ball more and do more things with the ball,” he said, “so I could definitely see how at the end it could stunt growth.”

He also mentioned that the Lakers got the SECOND best center in the trade:

“It didn’t really matter where I played as long as I get to,” he said. “Health is the big concern with me right now. I don’t regret anything. Personally, I think they traded No. 1 for No. 2 — and that’s what happened.”

Of course he’s going to say that. Who ranks himself as number two?

And lastly, Bynum discussed how LA missed out on seeing his full fro flourish because of the trade and the Lakers early exit from the playoffs. I for one and thankful we missed out on that.
