A former female vice president for the New York Mets is suing the organization. Leigh Castergine, a former senior vice president of ticket sales with  claims the team fired her because she was pregnant and unmarried.

Castergine’s suit alleges that co-owner Jeff Wilpon- son of majority owner Fred Wilpon – frequently embarrassed her asking where her where her ring was and telling her she would get a better raise if she had a husband.

(Wilpon) frequently humiliated Castergine in front of others by, among other things, pretending to see if she had an engagement ring on her finger and openly stating in a meeting of the Team’s all-male senior executives that he is ‘morally opposed’ to Castergine ‘having this baby without being married.’

In addition, the suit also alleges that Wilpon that “something had changed” after she gave birth because she wasn’t as ‘aggressive’ as she used to be.”

The Mets released a statement to CNN sports in response: “We have received and reviewed the complaint. The claims are without merit. Our organization maintains strong policies against any and all forms of discrimination.”

Castergine was the first Mets female VP in the team’s 52-year history.
