Serena Williams is currently in Brisbane, Australia participating in the Brisbane International. After a first round victory, Serena admitted in an interview that she not only doesn’t “love” tennis, she doesn’t even like working out or being an athlete and never really has.
“I don’t love tennis today but I’m here,” Williams said after a first-round victory in the Brisbane International, according to Yahoo! Sports. “I can’t live without it — there’s a difference between not loving something and not being able to live without it.”
“It’s not that I’ve fallen out of love,” she said, according to The Sydney Morning Herald. “I’ve actually never liked sports, and I never understood how I became an athlete. I don’t like working out. I don’t like anything that has to do with working physically.”
I think this probably explains why times its seemed that Serena wasn’t interested in her sport. She just happened to be an incredibly gifted athlete. Considering the fact that Venus started out and Serena joined in later, it makes a lot of sense. 39 titles and 13 Grand Slam singles titles, I’d say she made out ok.
