Swimmer Michael Phelps will compete in his last individual race on Friday. The first of his final two events in his Olympic career. First up, the 100-meter butterfly today and the 400-meter medley relay on Saturday. Should Phelps take gold in the 100 fly, and then the U.S. wins the medley relay, Phelps would retire with 22 medals, 18 of them gold.
In the London games alone, he’s won 4 medals. In ’08 and ’04 he brought home 8. Phelps at 27 is already the most decorated Olympian in history.
Swimming and its hip-hop connections continue to be a storyline for the London games. Among those Phelps mentioned who gave him congratulatory shout-outs, rappers Lil Wayne and Young Jeezy. Phelps also received a phone call from President Obama.
