Manny Pacquiao To Have Surgery On Torn Rotator Cuff; Could Face Perjury Charges

Looks like Manny Pacquiao was telling the truth about a shoulder injury injury. Pac will have surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn rotator cuff, an injury he reportedly sustained training for his flight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. It will take at least nine months to heal. But that’s not the end to this story, Manny’s team may be facing perjury charges for failing to disclose the injury.

Team Pacquiao did not share that information on the pre-fight evaluation form, and now the Nevada Athletic Commission will be investigating.

“Disclosure is a big thing for us, and honesty,” Cisco Aguilar, the Nevada Athletic Commissioner chairman, said late Monday. “The commission at some point will have to discuss [Pacquiao’s medical questionnaire]. I’ve got to run through the process with the [Nevada] Attorney General [Adam Laxalt]. But they do sign that document under the penalty of perjury.”

To add to that, there’s a discrepancy as to if Pacquiao’s advisors spoke with the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency about the injury and proposed treatments as they claimed in a statement released Monday.

Pacquiao’s camp never informed USADA of the boxer’s shoulder injury, and that the two calls his camp made to USADA prior to the fight were inquiries into whether certain substances Pacquiao was considering using were prohibited or not.

Pacquiao’s statement also said that the medication “approved for fight night was a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (Toradol).” Aguilar said Pacquiao’s team made a request hours before the fight for a lidocaine shot and anti-inflammatories.

Seems as if Pacquiao and his camp likely knew the writing was on the wall for this fight/situation and went for the money grab instead of the truth. We’ll see how this all turns out.
