Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday did record numbers over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Joining them was the release of the new era of the Rocky franchise, Creed starring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone.
The highly-anticipated spin off was the brainchild of director Ryan Coogler. Creed picks up the story by introducing a completely new character. Adonis Creed – played by Jordan – is the son of Rocky’s once rival Apollo Creed. he embarks on a personal boxing journey and enlist the help of Rocky.
The film opened over the weekend to the tune of $30.1 million and $42.6 million within the first 5 days according to Business Insider. Those numbers are the highest in the history of the “Rocky” franchise.
The early buzz is that Jordan, Coogler and Stallone all deserve Academy Awards nominations for their individual performances and the film itself for Best Picture. We’re still a short time away from the nominations, but one thing is certain, Creed is a box office hit.
