Tragedy struck over the weekend when the 15-year-old daughter of former World Champion Tyson Gay was killed while out eating with friends. Trinity Gay was caught in the middle of gunfire at a restaurant car park in Kentucky.
The budding track star was shot in the neck at 4:00 AM during the exchange and later succumbed to her injuries at 4:41 AM at a local Lexington hospital.
Three men have been arrested in connection with the shooting including, a father and son. In a statement, Lexington police say 38-year-old Chazerae Taylor and his 19-year-old son D’Markeo are charged with wanton endangerment in the early Sunday shooting.
Also charged was 21-year-old Dvonta Middlebrooks, with the same count and a weapons charge. Investigators say Middlebrooks was in the lot and fired multiple shots. Police say they’ve also found two vehicles involved.
Trinity Gay was a star track athlete at Lexington’s Lafayette High.
Tyson Gay confirmed his daughter’s death. Gay currently lives in Florida and made the following statement:
“She didn’t make it. I’m so confused. She was just here last week for fall break. It’s so crazy. I have no idea what happened,”
