Could Carmelo Anthony Join The Miami Heat This Summer?

Chris Bosh, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony

In the middle of the NBA Finals. Following a game three which saw the San Antonio Spurs score a record setting 56 points in the first half shooting a blistering 90%. They set Finals records for highest shooting percentage in a quarter and also a half. But instead of talking about that, we’re going to talk about Carmelo Anthony and NBA free agency.

That’s because the Heat reportedly have their targets set on Carmelo this summer. DWade’s knee is a shakey future to bank on. Melo is in the hunt for his first ring and is an offensive machine. Add to that LeBron looking a bit worn down at moments this season. Like he’s tired of shouldering the bulk of the work load, it makws sense.

The mere concept would require the star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to all opt out of their current contracts by the end of the month and likely take further salary reductions in new deals that start next season to give Miami the ability to offer Anthony a representative first-year salary. The Heat also are prevented from making any formal contact with Anthony until July 1 and can do so then only if he opts out of the final year of his current contract.

Lebron can afford to take the pay cut to extend his legacy. All of his savvy off court business moves are paying off. That’s why its important to have a grasp on your brand vision early. Melo and the Heat creating “Big 3 Reloaded”… it could happen. Pat Riley is just the man to sell this vision. And throw a bomb at Phil Jackson and the Knicks while he’s doing it.
