Spencer Hawes To Sign 4-Year Deal With Clippers

In NBA Free agency news, the Clippers beat out the Portland Trail Blazers for the services of center Spencer Hawes. The 7-footer agreed to a four-year-$23-million deal with the Clippers.

Doc Rivers is trying to turn this into a sign-and-trade, which would leave his mid-level exception to chase Paul Pierce for the three (another Clippers need).

The Clippers offered Hawes the full mid-level exception. He will come off the bench behind DeAndre Jordan and Blake Griffin.

The other interesting thing noted about this move. Next summer, where’s the money to sign DeAndre Jordan to an extension? That’s a problem for summer 2015 I guess.

Hawes played for the Cleveland Cavs last season. He was drafted in 2007 by the Sacramento Kings.
