76’ers not interested in Royce White playing for them this season?

Royce-White

Royce White has never played a game in the NBA after being drafted by the Houston Rockets in 2012. White suffers from an anxiety disorder which makes flying difficult. In July of 2013, the Rockets traded White and Turkish prospect Furkan Aldemir to the 76’ers receiving “future considerations” and cash AKA nothing to relieve themselves of the former Iowa state big man.

Now comes word from Tom Moore of the “Bucks County Courier Times” that new 76’ers GM Sam Hinkie wasn’t even all that interested in White. That the desired target in that trade was actually Aldemir and White might not make it in Philly.

As for the embattled White, Hinkie answered a question about White’s possible role on the team generically and never mentioned White by name.

An NBA source said the Rockets, who dealt him to the Sixers on July 6 along with a second-round pick and Turkish power forward Furkan Aldemir for future considerations and cash, are picking up the $1.7 million salary of White, who has an anxiety disorder and is afraid to fly. That means the Sixers have nothing invested in White — and that the 21-year-old Aldemir was the primary target in the deal, which the source confirmed.

White’s contract expires at the end of the 2013-2014 season. Has Philly just become a wasteland where difficult big men with expiring deals go to die? cc: Andrew Bynum’s only season in Philly.
