As one of the last charity exhibition games of an extended NBA offseason. Baron Davis and Tina Thompson’s charity event featured players that all grew up in and around the City of Angels. Participants included; DeMar DeRozan, Matt Barnes (the announcer introduced Matt as the “newly single” Matt Barnes… that was weird), James Harden, Nick Young, Craig Smith, Trevor Ariza, Amir Johnson and more.

One of the best basketball convos to get into (outside of that whole, whose the G.O.A.T or I guess GOAT #2…) is how you feel two players would match up in a one on one game. The LA Times polled Kevin Durant, John Wall, Trevor Ariza and Matt Barnes give their thoughts as to who would win a game of One-on-one between the Black Mamba, Kobe Bryant and King James himself… or just LeBron if you prefer your royalty to have the jewelry to back it up the legacy.

A rematch between D.C.’s Goodman League and L.A.’s Drew League is set to take place on October 9th in Los Angeles. The tentative location is Cal State Dominguez Hills. This time around, there will be a few new additions to the Drew team; Ryan Hollins (Cleveland Cavaliers), Dorell Wright (Golden State Warriors), Nick Young (Wizards) and Trevor Ariza (New Orleans Hornets).
I take my basketball excitement wherever I can get it these days. Here’s to hoping this game has to be canceled because NBA camps will be opening. Le sigh… don’t bust my bubble yet, ok!

Baron Davis, Trevor Ariza, Russell Westbrook and Kevin Love all attended UCLA, played basketball for the school AND made the jump into the NBA before they were handed their diplomas. And who wouldn’t when that option presents itself. But that hasn’t stopped them from re-enrolling at UCLA during lockout.

Now that the NBA season is done, I’m already going through withdrawals. With a lockout looming, the idea that I may not see basketball for awhile is depressing. :: sad face::
With no summer league either, I’ll be turning to alternative means to get my fix, Pro-Am’s. One of the best in the country is the Drew league. Founded in 1973, the Drew is held “in the hood” at Washington park (South Central L.A. to be exact, right next door to Watts) that doesn’t stop the pros from showing up. The highlight game on Saturday Kings of L.A. (which featured Kevin Durant, James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Michael Beasley and Dorell Wright) against Young Grangers (Nick Young, Andre Miller and Trevor Ariza)

I spent a lot of time in that city a few years ago. There’s a certain stretch of highway on the 26 that I swore had to be used for filming Friday the 13th or some other peril in the woods flick.
