Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is not taking his suspension for the Saints bounty scandal lightly. Of course there was an appeal filed but Vilma took it a step further and filed a lawsuit against Roger Goodell, the NFL Commissioner for defamation.

The New Orleans Hornets finally have a new owner and won’t be leaving the city. NBA.com’s David Aldridge has reported that New Orleans Saints owner, Tom Benson will personally purchase the team for $338 million. That’s a profit of $20 million for the NBA who purchased the team in December 2010.

For a certain segment of the sports nation, Gregg Williams is public enemy number one. Audio has surfaced of a speech Williams gave to his Saints defensive players in advance of a playoff game against the 49ers. This is a 4 minute snippet that was obtained from a documentary that was being filmed titled The United States of Football.

Social networking means that information that used to take days or even hours to circulate is now spread in a matter of minutes. Last week as “bounty-gate” punishments were being handed down. Several Twitter rumors were popping up making accusations as to who alerted NFL security to kick off the initial investigation.

Aggressive hits have been a high priority for the NFL publicly for the last two seasons. Friday information was released that the NFL has been secretly investigating the New Orleans Saints organization since 2010 for creating an internal bounty program participated in by players and coaches that encouraged the defense to hurt and knock opponents out of games.
