As I stated last week, I know there is a certain segment of the population who insists that NBA All-Star is ONLY about the subculture i.e. groupies and parties. But, there is also a lot of family time happening over the weekend as well. A few of your favorite NBA das made sure to get some time in with the kids over the weekend.

Kobe Bryant suffered a broken nose and mild concussion on Sunday during the NBA All-Star game. The injury happened during the third quarter when Dwyane Wade attempted to stop Kobe from making a wide open dunk… in an All-Star game… Yes, I’m adding just a tad of shade onto that statement.

Shaq and Charles Barkley have selected their teams for the 2012 NBA Rising stars challenge- the revamped rookie-sophomore challenge. There were also two late additions to the draft pool. Knicks sensation, Jeremy Lin and Heat rookie Norris Cole were added to the mix.

No Blake Griffin, no LeBron James, not even a JaVale McGee sighting for the 2012 dunk contest. This year’s four contestants are, the Houston Rockets’ Chase Budinger, the Indiana Pacers’ Paul George, the New York Knicks’ Iman Shumpert, and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Derrick Williams.

The NBA loves a good marketing campaign. With one of their highlight showcases taking place next week, the NBA All-Star game, adding Jeremy Lin to the mix was almost guaranteed.

The reserves have been announced for the 2012 NBA All-Stars. There were some obvious snubs (Hello, Rudy Gay has been killing.) Isn’t it about time the rules for voting players on the all-star team changed so that their aren’t limits on position? Or at the very least up the total team number from 12 players to 15. That way it at least represent the total number of players available to every team.
