Woman who accused Jameis Winston of rape suing FSU

Florida State University QB Jameis Winston has declared for the NFL draft this spring. The woman who accused Winston of rape has filed a federal civil suit against the trustees of the university, claiming they violated her civil rights by failing to investigate the case properly.

According to the lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday, the woman claims the university’s “clearly unreasonable response” and “hostile educational environment” constitute a violation of her civil rights.

The suit is filed under Title IX of the 1972 education amendments, which is designed to protect against discrimination based on sex in education, including sexual harassment.

The woman, who remains anonymous in the suit, reported being sexually assaulted in December 2012, by an unknown assailant. She then allegedly recognized Winston as her attacker when they shared a class on “race and ethnicity” at the beginning of the spring semester.
