Lakers trade Derek Fisher to the Houston Rockets for Jordan Hill

The Lakers always seem to pull of trades that seme semi-impossible or shock the masses once revealed. This year’s trade deadline was no exception. The Lakers, in addition to the earlier trade that netted them Ramon Sessions, have traded Derek Fisher  and a 2012 first-round pick (via Dallas) to the Rockets for Jordan Hill a third year forward.

Fisher was drafted to the Lakers in 96 and has been part of all 5 of the Lakers recent championships. GM Mitch Kupchak admitted in a press conference Thursday afternoon that trading Fish was a hard move to make but the right business move. Hill was averaging 5.0 points and 4.8 rebounds in Houston this season.

Was Kobe Bryant made aware of the move, doesn’t sound as if he was but at this point it’s pretty clear that Jim Buss isn’t on that page.

Is this enough to contend with the Thunder for the West? Guess we’ll see soon. It definitely gets the team younger.
