Gilbert Arenas to sign a year contract with Guandong Tigers in China

With the NBA continuing it’s foray into international waters, basketball is expanding as a global brand. So a former superstar heading over to China isn’t the worst experience. Gilbert Arenas looks to be joining other former NBA stars like Stephon Marbury and Tracy McGrady making the leap across the water to continue playing the game they love professionally.

According to a report via Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports, Arenas is close to leaving the NBA altogether and signing a deal with the Guandong Southern Tigers of the Chinese Basketball Association

Gilbert managed to hang on in the L longer than I expected. Not because he wasn’t talented. Clearly he could score. And for a moment, the Wizards were stating to look good in the East but injuries and off the court stuff never truly allowed for the team to come together.

I wonder if he’ll showcase his show fetish while playing over there. For a minute he had some buzz with his website that documented which throwback footwear he’d rock for each game.

With the crop of new footwear brands popping up there, some sort of endorsement deal wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility’s. Or, maybe he and Laura can start the first “Basketball Wives international player edition.”

That would be new.
