Serena & Venus Williams Both Lose In 2nd Round Of French Open

The French Open is underway. On day 3, two of women’s tennis greatest lost in the earlier rounds.

Reigning French Open champion and the top ranked women’s player in the world, Serena Williams was ousted at Roland Garros following her 6-2, 6-2 second round defeat to Spain’s Garbine Muguruza.

With No.2 ranked Li Na’s loss in the opening round, this is the first time in the open era that the top two ranked women’s players have been eliminated so early in the tournament according to the WTA. Venus Williams also lost Wednesday, dropping her match to Anna Schmiedlova 2-6, 6-3, 6-4. Venus and Serena were on course to face each other in round three.
