How Much “Recruiting” Did Derrick Rose Actually Do With Carmelo?

Being perfectly honest, I don’t think Derrick Rose is really interested in Carmelo Anthony coming to the Chicago Bulls. But that’s not something he’d publicly admit to. During Melo’s trip to Chicago on Wednesday, it was reported that DRose had changed his stance on not recruiting the Knicks forward, by working out for Melo and attending dinner.

But now, it seems as if those reports were slightly exaggerated. Rose was at the United Center doing his daily work out when Melo and execs popped in.

Rose actually was surprised to see Anthony, one source said. He had no idea what time the Knicks’ free agent would be visiting the Bulls.

Rose broke up his workout to approach Anthony and said a brief hello, but that was the extent of his participation in the Bulls’ recruitment.

Chicago took Anthony through a prepared recruitment presentation for Anthony, and Rose’s impression was that teammates Joakim Noah and Taj Gibson were officially part of it, sources said.

But the Bulls’ front office never asked Rose to join in.

Awkward. I’d imagine Melo would want to talk to DRose in some capacity if he was planning on being future teammates with the guy. On the surface, Chicago looks like a great fit for Melo, but I think the real struggle would be in the locker room.
