Titans Release RB Chris Johnson

Chris-Johnson

In a move that has been expected for weeks, the Tennessee Titans have formally released running back Chris Johnson. The move comes less than three years after signing Johnson signed a $53 million deal in 2011, following a camp holdout that season.

Johnson ran for 2,006 yards in 2009 and is also one of only six players to run for at least 1,000 yards in his first six seasons in the NFL. But last season, he averaged a career-worst 3.9 yards per carry, and didn’t have a run longer than 30 yards in 2013. He was scheduled to make $8 million in 2014. The move saves the Titans $4 million.
