NFL officials warning players in camp about endzone celebrations

nfl week 6

Why is celebrating a goal so offensive to the NFL? The NFL is stressing its celebration rule to teams in camp this preseason. Officials have reminded  players that “saluting, home run swing and dances” are all things that could be considered taunting under the Official NFL Playing Rules. For example, Giants receiver Victor Cruz’s salsa end zone dance, might not live if officials are cracking down.

sack dances; home run swing; incredible hulk; spiking the ball; spinning the ball; throwing or shoving the ball; pointing; pointing the ball; verbal taunting; military salute; standing over an opponent (prolonged and with provocation); or dancing.

The penalty for this is 15 yards. Is there even a large public outcry about endzone celebrations? Seems as if fans enjoy them for the most part. It adds to the entertainment factor of the game. “Why so serious Commissioner Goodell?”
